Terminal Duty Manager

The Work

aviation imageAs a Terminal Duty Manager it is important that you have an in depth knowledge of operations at an airport.

The job is extremely varied and includes receiving situation reports from security on an emergency alarm system malfunction or co-ordinating a search for a missing child.

The Terminal Duty Manager ensures that the terminal runs as smoothly as possible. Travelling can be a stressful time for passengers and a Terminal Duty Managers role is to reduce this stress as much as possible by ensuring all staff know and fulfill their roles so that the customer can safely proceed through the terminal.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Be friendly and enjoy working with the public and meeting new people
  • Be confident and authoritative when informing individual passengers about problems with passports, visas, identification papers or luggage
  • Have strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Be physically fit
  • Work under pressure
  • Have a patient and reassuring manner
  • Have good IT skills
  • Have a smart tidy appearance - a uniform will be provided
  • Be a team player
  • Remain calm and assured when dealing with angry passengers
  • Management experience is desirable
  • Airport experience is desirable
  • No criminal record. You will need to pass a full and strict criminal record check

Entry Requirements

Essential
  • An extensive knowledge of airport operations
  • Fluent in English
  • An understanding of health and safety legislation with experience of undertaking risk assessments
  • Experience of quality report writing and good IT skills
  • Working knowledge of current Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements
Desirable
  • A working knowledge of other languages and management or project management experience
  • Another route would be via Passenger Service Agent experience in this role develops many of the skills required in eg. Customer Service, check-in and management of the boarding and disembarkation process.

Training

Specific on the job training will be delivered by the employer. This training will include:
  • Security - including implementing and maintaining the terminal's security plan
  • Customer Service - a high level of these skills would already be expected
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Terminal Duty Managers will be expected to attend both in-house and external training as the job requires
